Universal Studios Welcomes You To Springfield

Universal Studios Hollywood is in the midst of a major expansion project that saw the opening of “Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem” and accompanying Super Silly Fun Land last year. This summer, additions will include a nighttime Studio Tour in celebration of its 50th Anniversary. On the tour, a brand new 4D, multi-sensory experience based on the “Fast and Furious” series of movies will debut as a permanent feature. In 2016, an immersive, extremely detailed land themed to the “Harry Potter” series will open, with yet another multi-million dollar ride and accompanying themed shops, restaurants and live attractions.

In April, the park soft-opened a re-imagined area in the Upper Lot that closely resembles the town of Springfield from the long-running “The Simpsons” television show. A motion simulator ride, which features Sideshow Bob terrorizing the Simpson family has been in place for several years, but the attraction sat amongst randomly themed restaurants and felt a bit out of place. The creative team at Universal Studios Hollywood has breathed new life into the area surrounding the popular attraction and was “designed to capture the spirit of the animated town and engage visitors and fans of the show in the intensely absorbing and colorful world made famous throughout the series' record-setting 26 seasons.” Upon entering Springfield, you will find popular establishments frequented by Homer, Marge, Bart and others accurately recreated. Hungry? Grab a hamburger at Krusty Burger with fries and milkshake. Would you rather have fried chicken? Find it at Cletus’ Chicken Shack. Phineas Q. Butterfat’s Ice Cream Parlor sells a variety of frozen treats, including popular sundaes. Lard Lad’s Donuts serves up baked goodies large enough to share. Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck offers a variety of Mexican specialties including tacos and nachos. Pizza can be found nearby at Luigi’s. Feeling thirsty? The Duff Brewery serves craft beer with the iconic name. Head across the “street” and belly up to the bar at Moe’s Tavern for the “Flaming Moe,” a chilled, non-alcoholic drink that comes “smoldering” in a souvenir cup. While in Springfield, stop and take a selfie with the characters as they wander around. Play carnival games for fun prizes and hop on board the ride for a thrilling couple of minutes, then shop for souvenirs at the Kwik-E-Mart. Building facades mimic other notable establishments from the show. Make sure and watch as the towers of the nuclear plant let off steam every few minutes. Doh… it’s guaranteed you will have a great time experiencing Universal’s Springfield and other new additions. For Updates, Photos and Videos, visit… Facebook.com/theFUNnelCakeBlog
